Emma Basic curry recalled over undeclared milk risk: check eight best-before dates
The supplier is recalling selected Emma Basic Japanese Style Curry 200g packs that may contain milk without a label warning. Packs already marked “may contain milk” are not affected.

People with a milk allergy or intolerance are being asked to check packs of Emma Basic Japanese Style Curry 200g after the supplier issued a recall over milk that may not be declared on the label.
The Basic Ingredients Ltd, which trades as Emma Basic, identifies eight best-before dates in its public recall notice. There is an important exception: packs that already show a “may contain milk” warning on the label are not affected.
Which dates are listed?
The notice identifies the following best-before dates. Check the date and the allergen warning together; the date alone does not determine whether a pack is included.
| Year | Best-before dates in the notice |
|---|---|
| 2026 | 29 December 2026 |
| 2027 | 24 February; 18 March; 12 May; 23 July; 14 September; 12 October 2027 |
| 2028 | 26 March 2028 |
The product photograph in the notice shows a tall, pale box labelled Curry Cubes, Japanese Style, with the Emma Basic name. The recall specifies the 200g product.
Advice for people avoiding milk
The supplier says the curry may contain milk that is not declared on the label. Its instruction is that anyone allergic or intolerant to milk should not eat the affected product.
The wording describes a possible undeclared-milk risk. The notice does not report an illness count or say that every pack contains milk, so neither should be inferred from the recall.
Returning a pack
The supplier advises buyers to return the product to the place where they bought it for a full refund, or contact the company. The contact number printed in the notice is 020 7916 1192, and the email address is [email protected].
The notice also tells stores that the affected product may only be returned to sale when advised by The Basic Ingredients Ltd. For consumers, the practical check remains the combination of the named 200g curry, one of the listed dates and whether the pack already carries the milk warning.
