Health Canada tells owners to stop using JKMAX heated blankets and pads

The agency warns of overheating that can cause fire or burns. Its notice covers products previously sold on Amazon.ca and instructs owners to dispose of them safely.

Owners of affected JKMAX heated blankets and heating pads should stop using them immediately, Health Canada said in a safety notice published on October 22. The agency determined that internal heating wires can overheat, creating a risk of fire or burns.

The warning concerns products previously available on Amazon.ca. Health Canada says they have been removed from sale there. That removal does not address items already in homes, which is why the notice gives owners a separate stop-use instruction.

How to identify an affected product

The blankets and pads come in blue, grey, brown or red polyester fabric and were sold in several sizes. A detachable white remote controls the heat. Owners can find the model number on the back of that remote and on a white packaging label bearing the JKMAX brand.

The notice names the following distinct model numbers. JKMAX-6284B appears twice in the source list and is shown once here.

  • JKMAX-002
  • JKMAX-7284B
  • JKMAX-6284B
  • JKMAX-10090B
  • JKMAX-8490B

Colour or the general appearance of a heated blanket alone is not enough to establish that it is covered. The brand and model identifiers provide the more specific checks set out in the notice.

What owners are being asked to do

Health Canada instructs consumers to stop using affected items and dispose of them safely in a way that prevents further use. The announcement does not offer a refund, replacement or repair programme, so none should be assumed from the recall classification.

The agency says it contacted the foreign selling company about a voluntary recall but did not receive a response to its requests. It identifies Jiande Pengshuai Trading Co., Ltd., in China, as the distributor.

Canadian sales and incident reports

The company reported that 74 affected units were sold in Canada from September 2024 through September 2026. This is the Canadian figure in the notice, rather than a worldwide sales total.

As of the notice, no incidents or injuries related to these products had been reported to Health Canada. That statement describes reports received by the agency; it does not cancel the overheating hazard the department identified.

Consumers can report a health or safety incident through the Consumer Product Incident Report Form linked from the official notice. The Canadian alert is identified as RA-82826, which can help owners locate the right warning when checking the recalls database.
